anjuna market

ulisses, my neighbour with the sea-facing room on the top floor of om ganesh guest house (on the hill), and i took a trip to anjuna market on his hired scooter. it’s always an adventure to see the theatre of life on india’s roads. anjuna market was a huge disappointment. lots of cheap quality stuff with pushy and sometimes disrespectful vendors.

there were a lot of foreigners with their own stalls there too, but nothing of interest for me. finally i found a shirt for me, and got it for half price after haggling. he was smiling at the end... after a poker-faced haggling session... a sure sign that i still paid too much for it! still, as ulisses said, it was the best quality clothes we had seen in the whole market, it fit me good... and i needed to replace the rapidly threadbare shirt i had on! we didn’t get to see other parts of anjuna or the beaches there, but i was getting the impression that arambol was definitely a nice place to be based.

on the trip back to arambol, i made a video with the canon sureshot from the back of the moped... unfortunately, it’s too long to upload with the normal connection i find here in the wifi cafes, but it gives a flavour of the life on indian roads. or should i say goan roads... from what i know, these are a haven of tranquillity compared to ‘normal’ indian roads. there was even a stretch where we didn’t see another vehicle, person or animal... unbelievable! we got to chill at mandrem beach, arambol’s southern neighbour.
